The Kakslauttanen planetarium presents the northern lights even when they are not visible in the sky

The world’s largest private planetarium is open to everyone.

The world’s largest private planetarium in Kakslauttanen has opened to the public. Now you can see a 30-minute film about the northern lights in the 180-degree planetarium dome.

The narration of the film is available in 13 languages. The planetarium has 156 spectator seats and disabled seats.

– Every year, guests from 85 countries visit the us, and almost all of them hope to see the northern lights. However, since it is not always possible to see the northern lights, we do not want to disappoint our customers, that’s how I got the idea of building a planetarium in the area, says Jussi Eiramo, owner of Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort.

Planetariums are usually located in connection with science centres.

The film was shot in the nearby area.

The film shown in the planetarium is educational.

– The film was shot mainly in the local area, in Kakslauttanen and Utsjoki. The film has received praise from Finnish Astronomical Association, Ursa members as well as NASA, who gave help during the making of the film. Those who have seen the film have even characterized it as the best aurora borealis film in the world, Eiramo states.

The planetarium can also be used for other events: in the front part of the hall there is a presentation area with a rising stage. For example, a car can be presented on the stage, companies’ own films can be shown in the planetarium for private events.

The planetarium is part of the Kakslauttanen Arctic resort complex which includes, in addition to accommodation services, a design shop complex presenting Finnish design and art, a restaurant and an igloo tower.

The planetarium’s restaurant houses the largest work of glass art in the Nordic countries.

The restaurant connected to the planetarium is open to the public daily during the high season. The restaurant also houses Kakslauttanen’s own brewery and liquor distillery, which will start operating when a brewmaster is hired for the company.
